Black Service All Star Interview with Member Jens Gould
Oct 22, 2009 Stock Market News
Please give a warm welcome to our 5th installment of our All Star Interviews with top notch trader Jens Gould.
Jens Gould:
The other young buck. Both me and jens are in our early mid 20’s so i’m looking forward to where both of us will be in 10 years. We share a very similar trading strategy always looking for that small cap stock breaking out on big volume. If he mentions a stock in the chat room its usually something i might be interested in.
Interview:
Whats Your Name?
Jens Gould / Andrew Gold
How old are you?
24
Where are you from?
Born in Los Angeles CA, but currently live in Denver, CO
How long have you been trading?
Only really been trading for about 2 years now.
What was your motivation/trigger to get into trading?
I played poker and omaha all throughout college which surprisingly are really similar to trading, especially in terms of discipline, account manangement etc… My brother who was really into value investing talked to me about trading every time I was around him. He gave me a rundown on fundamentals how to look at earnings, listening to company conference call’s etc…, and we came across two stocks that I put some of my poker winnings in, RICK and VCGH. Both stocks doubled in a couple weeks. Of course I held onto them for way too long, ultimately selling VCGH at a loss haha, but seeing how quickly and easily I doubled my money I thought I’d give trading a try.
whats your trading time frame? (1 day? couple weeks?)
It really just depends on the setup. Some stocks I’ll trade for quick intraday moves, but I’m not opposed to holding onto stocks for longer term moves.
Do you trade anything other than stocks? Like Futures, options?
I trade mainly stocks. I just got a few books and dvds on options but I haven’t gotten into them yet.
Are you trading for a living? Or is this just a part time gig for you?
I’m trading for a living.
What kind of things do you do when your not being lazy and clicking buttons on your computer to make money?
I’ve always been really into music. Right next to my trading setup I have my turntables where I mess around djing, but now trading for a living, haha, there are only so many hours I can spend in the same room. Since I moved to Denver, I’ve been learning to snowboard. I also train capoeira which is kind of like a Brazilian martial art.
Tell us about your approach to the market. What is it that you look for in stocks that you trade?
These days, since the market is back in a bullish trend, I mainly look for breakouts on big volume. Other than that I’m a big fan of stocks both intraday and longer term that more or less are taking the elevator down and suddenly get a huge rush in volume and the price doesn’t fall anymore. In the market we had before march this pattern was really effective because stocks were taking nose dives left and right.
What kind of trading set up do you have? Are you just hanging solo with a single monitor. Or are you riding dirty on four 22’s?
These days I have 4 24s set up with 2 on top of the other 2 and one 19 on each side.
Whats your favorite book that you read on the market that added the most value to your arsenal of knowledge?
There are a lot of books I’d recommend, but the top three are
Technical Analysis: The Complete Resource for Financial Market Technicians
New Thinking in Technical Analysis: Trading Models from the Masters
How to make money in Stocks
What do you think about this whole Black Service operation I’m running here @ TheTheTechnicalTrader.net?
Black service is awesome. Without a doubt, for me, the patterns that i’ve picked up from watching fous trade are by far the most consistent, reliable and lucrative patterns I’ve found. In addition the other traders in the chat are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Coming across ttt.net has made an irreplaceable impact on my trading and to be honest I’m not really sure if I’d even still be trading without it.
What other websites do you use to conduct research?
Other sites I use are the lion, timmy sykes, investorslive, green on the screen, stocktiger, and IBD.
Just curious, whats your favorite movie?
I’d have to go with a movie I use to watch all the time growing up called Brain Donors, but Gladiator is also really good.
And curiosity lingers again. If you were given the shot to make your move on one famous celebrity. Who would it be?
Ever since rollergirl I’ve thought Heather Graham was really hot. Her becoming a cougar now just makes it even better haha.
What was the best trade that you ever made?
EPIX and DVAX were both “holiday gifts” I bought in December of last year on FDA approval. I sold DVAX for +224% and EPIX for +195% in 2 days.
And of course.. Now tells us about your worst!
My worst trade was by far MTXX a couple months ago. Before that trading was going unbelievably well, and in the back of my mind I knew disaster was looming. I bought it while it was take a huge dive, on a scare of a product recall, according to the news that had been released at the time. Minutes later it was halted, and the real news came out saying that a huge number of products were being recalled and the stock fell from 15 to 6. Doh!
How did you find out about TheTechnicaltrader.net?
I found ttt.net when I first was looking for sites that would help me learn more about technical analysis. I can’t even remember what I googled, but I started following fous’s picks before black service became official. I haven’t looked back since!
